Majaliwa argues regions, NSC to develop Sports

Deputy Minister of State in the Prime minister’s office for Regional Administration and Local Government, Kassim Majaliwa has urged regional authorities and the National Sports Council ( NSC) to develop sports in the country.

Opening National inspiration Programme (NIP), and  closing up a project of International Inspiration Programme (IIP) which was implemented in Tanzania under UK Sports at the National Stadium in Dar es salaam 20 September,2014, Majaliwa said, sports play a big role in community development.

He said the government has decide to employ sports Officers in every district to show how it recognizes the role they play in developing in the regions.

Majaliwa said that to build sports behavior is the most important thing to human mind and people should understand sports create good health.

“I once visited Burundi and I saw on Saturdays they have a tradition of gathering different centers for physical exercises. That’s good habit which we should also develop in our country” he said

He added that as a country, Tanzania should strive to ensure it wins different competition as it has failed to perform well at the international level.

Recently, we had the East Africa Secondary School Games in which we, as country didn’t perform well”, he said.

He added “ Kenya finished overall winners followed by Uganda and Rwanda. Tanzania finished fourth although we hosted the Games.

Majaliwa said the International Inspiration Programe, which is inspiring children and youths to love sports should leave a legacy in the Country.

NSC Chairman Dioniz Malinzi said the Country need to excel in sports and that is why they are working hard to prepare youths.

“I was talking to some Britons and they told me that before the Olympic Games they always prepare their teams from a very long time and Tanzania is supposed to do the same”, he said.

For her part, United Nations, Ambassador of peace and sports, Tekla Loroupe, said sports play a big role in bringing people together and help them to improve their mental and physical health.

“Sports don’t segregate the rich from poor, it unites us all…it enables the society to have people  who have mental and physically  healthy”, she said

“We should all inspire our children to love sports as they help them to perform better academically”, she added.
